LUYENGO – Naturally, the Makhubus are very strong people. This was said by Bheki Makhubu’s younger sister Ntando, a former Times of Swaziland journalist at her brother’s thanksgiving ceremony yesterday.

Ntando, speaking on behalf of siblings, said the Makhubus of Luyengo were a united family that believed in supporting each other in times of happiness and sorrow.
The event was held at St Christopher’s High School at Luyengo.
Among prominent people present were Makila James, the United States Ambassador to Swaziland and Mario Masuku, President of the People’s United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO). Mbongeni Mbingo, Chairman of the Swaziland Editors’ Forum, was Master of Ceremonies at the event.

Bheki is also a member of the Editors’ Forum.
Ntando said her brother Bheki went straight to work as soon as he was released from prison, an indication that he was a strong personality who believed in his product, which is his work.

Bheki is editor of The Nation magazine.  He is also former editor of the Times SUNDAY.
Ntando said her brother did not deserve to be in prison in the first place.

She said even if his writings could be perceived by the state to be contemptuous or whatsoever, he basically did not deserve to be jailed for what he wrote in the magazine. Ntando said a certain man was charged with murder and evidence was overwhelming that the offence could have been committed but he walked free.
