MANZINI – Teachers continue to shun their mass meetings.
Yesterday, they failed to form a quorum for their all-important Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Approximately 400 teachers attended the meeting which was held at the Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) Centre.
The meeting was scheduled to commence at 10am but started an hour late because the numbers were not convincing.

After being called to order, the members were moved to a tent, which was pitched in front of the organisation’s offices.
While others sat inside the tent, most opted to follow the proceedings while basking in the sun.

Matters that were part of the agenda included the president’s remarks, the Public Service Pension Fund issue, and an update on salary negotiations.
Freedom Dlamini, the President of SNAT, informed those present that they could not proceed with the meeting because a quorum had not been formed.

Dlamini said a new date for the meeting would have to be set.
Since the meeting had been called off, the National Executive Committee (NEC) preferred to share some information with the membership regarding two issues that would have been discussed during the AGM.

These included salary negotiations and the takeover of the Public Service Pension Fund (PSPF) by government.
In a later interview, SNAT Secretary General Muzi Mhlanga explained that their constitution required that at least 40 per cent of the membership should be in attendance.
