MBABANE – Sports journalists collected about E8 000 worth of goods during a surprise trolley dash yesterday.

Journalists from the country’s main media houses got a rare opportunity to pick items of their choice at Mbabane SuperSpar to create hype for the ongoing Swazi Telecom Charity voting exercise. The lucky reporters’ names were picked during a draw the previous day.

Leading the way was Channel Swazi’s Justice Dlamini who netted E2 394 out of a collective total of E8 088.
“We’re honoured on the recognition as we continue to remind people to fully embrace the charity initiative. We can encourage people to continue voting as their votes go a long way in changing the lives of the needy,” Dlamini said. This publication was represented by Sabelo Gwebu, who also left a mark, grabbing items worth E2 231.96.

The trolley dash lasted for a minute and the participants were required to grab only perishables. The figures recorded by Dlamini were the highest so far this year. Teams are yet to make the cut as they need to pump in at least 8 000 votes per week. Swaziland Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (SPTC) Corporate Communications Officer Alex Lushaba, who was in the company of Swazi Telecom Charity Cup PRO, Donatus ‘Nkhonotja’ Zwane, among others, said more surprise trolley dashes were on the cards. He said an SPTC employee as well as another team PRO would win today.
