MBABANE – A Sihlangu player allegedly slapped a fan with an open hand in the face on Sunday night upon the teams’ return from Angola.

The squad was from honouring the second leg of the CHAN Qualifiers against Angola. The fan is said to have mocked some of the players inside the Caltex Filling Station a few metres from the Ngwenya Border Gate.

The name of the Sihlangu player is known to this publication, but will not be named as he has not been charged yet.
The fan reported the matter at Mbabane Police Station yesterday afternoon.

The fan confirmed that he was slapped by a Sihlangu player. He admitted to have taken one too many when the incident happened.
“I was walking to the Caltex Garage when I met the players. I then sung praises to one of the players who is my best player and the rest felt offended. I tried to apologise but one player just came charging and slapped me in the face,” he said.

The Caltex Garage is about 200m from the border gate, on the Swazi side.
Bandla Simelane* said he was in the company of his girlfriend when he was beaten by the player. He said one of his friends who were also inside the shop rescued him from further assault. He said he did not sustain injuries but the beating came with severe pain.

“The garage assistant and my friend who was inside the shop came to my rescue. I was shocked when I was slapped as I didn’t expect such from a player. My sin was that of singing praises to one of them,” he said.
Some of the Sihlangu players, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the matter, saying they were angered by the fan’s comments towards them.
