MATSAPHA – South African teams have come up tops in the Swaziland Invitational International Basketball Tournament (SIIBT) which was held over the weekend after scooping both the men and women titles.

The fourth edition of the annual tournament, which involved 32 teams from various countries in the Southern Africa region, started on Friday and the finals were held on Sunday at UNISWA’s Sports Emporium. The finals saw teams from Zimbabwe and South Africa contest for the titles in both divisions.

SA league champions Tshwane Suns clashed with JBC in a pulsating final which they won 62-51.
Their game had been preceded by the women final which was between V and J and Zimbabwe’s Vixens.

V and J proved superior to their opponents who they outplayed in the first, second and fourth quarter to record a massive 86-58 title winning score.
Worth mentioning is that both teams were competing in this tournament for the first time, and ironically, the finalists in both categories had been in same groups.

All the finalists also received a standing ovation from the audience after delivering gutsy performances.
Meanwhile, the competition featured local teams, others from Namibia, Lesotho, Botswana and Mozambique.
