MBABANE – South Africa-based top tennis star Bruce Gama is still in the dark about his participation in the All Africa Games to be held in September.

The athlete is among the local top level tennis players who are eager to test themselves against the best in the continent in the tournament.
Gama is currently player coach in South Africa with a club called Irene Country Club which is under the Pro-Active Tennis Academy.

“It is frustrating not knowing whether you are going or not because most of the players from other countries have started serious preparations for the tournament. I have two in my team from South Africa who are playing tournaments every week.
“I should be playing at the Mozambique F1 which is an International Tennis Federations ITF points tournament.

Saving

“But I couldn’t because of financial constraints. Instead, I am still saving to play in the F2 ITF tournament in Zimbabwe on June 26 to 27.”
He said he would have appreciated starting the preparations earlier just like his counterparts in Botswana who he said are attached to a top academy in the United States of America.

“I was planning on securing funding to prepare in France if everything had been finalised.
“I am still waiting after being told to write a letter motivating my inclusion in the team to the All Africa Games. I am the only active tennis player internationally in the country and recently, I reached the semi finals of the Maputo Open. The ITF tournament could help prepare me for the All Africa Games,” he said.

The All Africa Games will be held in Congo Brazzaville from September 4 to 19.
