MBABANE – The country’s martial arts has been given a huge boost in South Africa as the local Martial Arts Federation became a provisional member of the Zone VI over the weekend.

This happened on Saturday in Johannesburg, whereby all the Zone VI countries like the hosts, South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique, Botswana and Lesotho, to name a few, attended the Zone VI Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Swaziland Martial Arts Federation’s (SMAF) top brass in President Shihan Lucky Thomo and Secretary General Victor Gwebu, represented the country in the meeting.

“SMAF took a huge leap on Saturday where we were granted a one-year provisional acceptance as a member of Zone VI, which comes with a lot of benefits for all karatekas, regardless of their styles in the country,” Gwebu confirmed yesterday.
He said acceptance to Zone VI meant that they could now enjoy the benefit of having one national team for martial arts representing all the karate styles in the kingdom.

The national team will be trained under the Zone VI rules, which call for all the various styles to adjust whenever there is a tournament under the Zone. “We also now stand a chance to send all our karate styles to the Olympics as SOCGA recognises and works with Zone VI. All it takes now is to apply to SOCGA for recognition and we can have our national team of mixed karate styles fighting for the country as one,” Gwebu said, while explaining that next year they hoped for full acceptance.
