MBABANE – National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) Executive Committee member and Golden Foot Athletics Club runner Elphas Ngcamphalala has made history by finishing the gruelling 90th Comrades Marathon in record time for Swaziland on Sunday.

Golden Foot Club founder Tokky Hou disclosed with glee that Ngcamphalala was the first Swazi runner to cross the finish line, conquering the 89km extended up-run route from Durban to Pietermaritzburg in seven hours 47 minutes to get the coveted medal along with his 14 teammates.
“We had sent 15 of our runners to the race and we are delighted that they all did well to finish the race. We are more proud that Elphas

Ngcamphalala was the first Swazi to cross the finish line in what was a record time for Swaziland. We are very excited about that.”
Meanwhile, she said Golden Foot Club-Mbabane coach Sifiso Mdluli was the second behind Ngcamphalala, finishing after eight hours 44 minutes along with Dumisani Sibiya who came second behind him.

However, none of the local runners were able to make it into the top 100 and Hou could not readily give their finishing positions, as well as some of the times of other runners.
