LOBAMBA – National Under-23s coach Caleb Ngwenya has boosted the squad’s striking force by reuniting with on-form forward, Mthunzi ‘Xavi’ Mkhontfo.

The versatile winger has been phenomenal for both club Royal Leopard, and country, Sihlangu in the past few days.
The player, who was not in the team that played a goalless draw in the first leg of the Olympic Qualifiers in Harare, Zimbabwe last Sunday, has been selected to do battle in the return match set for Somhlolo National Stadium on Sunday. ‘Xavi’, as the tenacious forward is widely known, was spotted going through his paces with his teammates at the match’s host venue yesterday.

Coach Caleb Ngwenya also confirmed the latest developments, saying the former Midas City star was the latest addition in the squad alongside nimble Sea Birds striker, Muzi Tsabedze.
“The players have always been part of the team. It’s just that Mthunzi has been held up in the senior national team.”
We’re getting there as all the players are now in camp.”

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe‘s  ‘Young Warriors’ coach, Kalisto Pasuwa, told one of that country’s publications, News Day, that he was satisfied with the preparations ahead of the trip to the country after parading  a depleted squad in the first leg.

“I am happy with the preparations so far. I think I have players I want in camp. I am just expecting Ronald Pfumbidzai from trials in Denmark. He should be coming in tonight (last night). In the first leg, we had problems with our wingbacks, but with Pfumbidzai and Blessing Moyo in the team, we expect to come with a good result,” he was quoted saying.
