MAFUTSENI – The country’s exceptional youngsters showed resolve in the Dups Mafutseni Classic despite failing to manage podium finishes.

Darren Dunn, who is currently leading in the rankings locally, was relegated to an unusual ninth spot in 2:59: 20 hours.
The 21-year-old shining MTN Khemani youngster said he featured in the championship while recovering from a bout of flu.

Stealing the show was 19-year-old Mduduzi Zwane, who recently won the inaugural Mdumezulu MTB race, clocking 2:59:15 hours. The latter was fourth overall, just two seconds behind overall winner Demarco Pillay from South Africa.

“I’m pleased on my performance. The pace was too fast.” Meanwhile, seasoned cyclist, Carlos Malinga, who is now overshadowed by the youngsters, made a surprise appearance in the shorter race, the 50km. He allayed fears that he was throwing in the towel in the bigger events.
“I did not have enough time to train, so I opted for the shorter race. I’ll continue with the bigger races.”
