MBABANE – The quartet of Zweli ‘Mlilo’ Nxumalo, Mthunzi ‘Xavi’ Mkhontfo, Felix ‘Fela’ Badenhorst and Tony ‘TT’ Tsabedze are in the forefront in the running for the prestigious Player of the Year award.

Some local coaches randomly interviewed yesterday picked the four players as deserving to be considered for the award. The reigning Player of the Year is Royal Leopard’s defender Sifiso ‘Sushi’ Nkambule.
Moneni Pirates’ Zambian strategist Happy ‘Messiah’ Simfukwe said the Mbabane Swallows duo of Badenhorst and Tsabedze has been in tremendous form.

“When considering the roles they have played, not just for their club, but for the national team Sihlangu as well, it is easy to see that anyone between the two could win the award. Felix, in particular, has also been vital for Sihlangu,” he said.
Manzini Sea Birds coach Van Rooyen Magagula said for him, Royal Leopard’s midfielder ‘Mlilo’ and the Swallows attacker Badenhorst have been the most outstanding players.

“Another player who impressed was Manzini Sundowns youngster Justice (Figareito) but unfortunately, he seemed to shine at a very late stage of the season, yet these two have been consistent and have also appeared for the national team regularly,” he said.
Mbabane Swallows coach Mandla ‘Stofu’ Dlamini said he would hand the award to Badenhorst blindfolded because of the player’s influence at both Swallows and the national team.

“However, Mthunzi (Mkhontfo) has also been good for Leopard. Both players have done well for me and deserve the award,” he said.
