MHLUME – A ‘trigger happy’ Mbabane Swallows thrashed relegated RSSC United by 5-1 to keep their slim hopes of winning the MTN Premier League championship alive.

Trailing runaway leaders, Royal Leopard, by eight points before yesterday’s match, the capital city giants needed all the points at stake when they made a stop at Mhlume Stadium Stadium for their clash against the sugar-belt side. They had all the reasons to be cautious as they were the only team to be beaten by the hosts so far this season following a 0-1 first round loss.

Mandla ‘Stofu’ Dlamini’s charges started to stamp their authority as early as the 15th minute through burly forward, Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa, who got a nod ahead of Sandile Hlatshwako. It proved to be a scary outing at first as the home side came to the party, cancelling the lead through the veteran Vusi Tfumbatha in the 23rd minute to force a share of the spoils at the break.

The visitors’ total ascendancy began after the restart. The about 100 visiting supporters were still returning to their seats when gifted midfielder  Njabulo ‘D4D’ Ndlovu fired home with an easy tap in after a goal-mouth scramble following a quick attack seconds into the second half.
It soon became a one-man’s show but Swallows were guilty of missing countless chances.

Trusted midfielder, Felix Badenhorst connected a Wonder Nhleko cross from the right flank to double his team’s advantage in the 55th minute.
RSSC’s defence marshaled by former Mbabane Highlanders defender, Thulani ‘Gadze’ Sibisi, looked to be at sixes and sevens as the opponents literally strolled into the box with relative ease.

It was no surprise when an unmarked Felix completed his brace 12 minutes with an easy shot from near range. Swallows, who had played with an unchanged team in most of their games, made a rare substitution, sacrificing the ‘bored’ Felix for Sifiso Vilakati who made an immediate impact, squeezing through the defence before giving his team an unassailable lead.
