MBABANE – The MTN League clash pitting log leaders, Royal Leopard and Moneni Pirates was played under protest yesterday.

The police ensemble lodged the protest before the start of their encounter against Moneni Pirates at the Prince of Wales Sports Ground yesterday, complaining of the overgrown grass inside the pitch. Referee Mbongiseni Shongwe noted the protest and both teams captains signed it. Central defender Siboniso ‘Rocco’ Malambe signed for Leopard, while Pirates were represented by skipper Mncedzisi Dlamini.

The game, which was an ill-tempered affair and saw a section of the teams’ fans clashing over suspected muti usage late into the second half, was played in a bushy Prince of Wales, which made play for both teams difficult. Leopard coach Sifiso ‘Nuro’ Ntibane said they had to lodge the protest because the state of the playing ground was bad.

He, however, could not be drawn to comment on whether his team would pursue the matter or not after managing only a point against Pirates.
“I am just happy with the players’ fighting spirit. This was a very difficult game but we managed to get a point, which is better than a loss,” he said.
