EZULWINI – The Swaziland National Sports and Recreation Council (SNSRC) has come up with a wonderful idea to change the image of the country’s sports internationally.

The council has set up an International Games Fund (IGF), an imitative that will seek to generate funding to supplement government’s allocation so that Swaziland will have less financial trouble which hinders sports associations from sending teams to represent the country in international competitions.

The SNSRC has partnered with MTN Swaziland and the project was launched yesterday at MTN Swaziland head offices, revealed to SNSRC members by board Chairman Lawrence ‘Lolo’ Mthethwa, who said their partnership with the mobile communication services provider had given birth to an SMS based competition that was already running.

The competition would be used to generate money that would go into the IGF and each SMS would cost E5, excluding a 70c VAT charge, while the participants would stand a chance to get fabulous prizes weekly and monthly, as well as in August during the grand prize draw.
Meanwhile, Mthethwa clarified that while they wanted to use the IGF for various competitions which would have to be attended, the benefits of the exercise would all be channelled towards the All Africa Games team which will leave for Congo Brazzaville in September.

“There are many changes that the council is bringing so as to transform our sports. The IGF is one of the key changes. We will embark on many other initiatives to generate funds that will allow substantial and smooth participation in international sports competitions.
