SITHEMBISO, NJABULO SHINE AT BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS

MANZINI – As boxers traded lethal punches over the weekend at Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre during the national championships, two were chosen to have shone brighter than all.


Seasoned boxer Sithembiso Mkhwanazi of Tambankulu Boxing Club and the champion in the 54kg category, was given the Best Boxer Award in the seniors, a trophy, after a fabulous and dominating showing on his way to taking the gold medal.


He played two games on Saturday, eliminating strong contender Vusi ‘Mashesha’ Simelane in the semi-final, and he was too hot to handle for Nkosinathi Dlamini, who he forced to retire to win with a delightful technical knockout in the final on Sunday.
Other than the award, he also got another trophy for his semi-final bout which was chosen as the Best Bout.


Meanwhile, for the juniors, Njabulo Mndzebele of New Boys impressed the adjudicators, especially with his final fight, which was also selected as the Best Bout. Another highlight of Sunday was the opening bout, which saw two ladies, Delisile Msibi and Nosipho Magagula, square-up in the ring in what was a match won by Msibi through a technical knockout.
Eight bouts were witnessed, of which three produced knockouts.
