MBABANE – Moneni Pirates players are set to strike it rich after being promised over half of the E800 000 SwaziBank Cup prize money.

Highly placed insiders divulged that the team’s Managing Director (MD), December Mavimbela, made the promise to the players during a closed meeting ahead of the final.
During the meeting, the Management Committee (MC), headed by Christopher ‘Tototo’ Khoza, was asked to excuse Mavimbela and the players.

The sources disclosed that Mavimbela said they would share not less than 50 per cent of the prize money. Two players, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the reports in separate interviews.
“The MD told the MC members to go out because he wanted to meet with the players on his own. He then declared that in the event the team won the trophy, he and the squad would share the prize money. Even though he did not state an exact figure that would be shared among the team because he did not want anyone to play under pressure, he did say that we should not expect less than 50 per cent,” said player one.

Player two said: “The MD did meet us without the MC and he promised that if we won the final, he would not give us anything less than 50 per cent to share among ourselves.”
Meanwhile, Moneni Pirates PRO Thami Dlamini said he was not aware of this development.

“The MD only spoke to the players for a few minutes. However, when we were present in the meeting he never mentioned anything in numbers about incentives, just that the players would be rewarded handsomely if they put their all and won the cup. He still has not communicated anything to us (MC) with regard to how much they will share and we trust that such will be discussed next week.”

On the other hand, Mavimbela said on the night of the official crowning, they would call a press conference to announce what the players would be given as incentives.
Pirates dominated Wanderers during the final, who had been promised that they would share the whole E800 000 had they won, but they choked and lost 2-0 through goals scored by strikers Ndumiso ‘Karas’ Dlamini and Mfanufikile ‘Fash’ Ndzimandze, who was also crowned the tournament’s Best Player.
