EZULWINI – He is not called the ‘Messiah’ for nothing.

Zambian coach Happy ‘Messiah’ Simfukwe was all smiles yesterday after being named the SwaziBank Cup Coach of the Tournament.
Simfukwe masterminded Pirates’ stunning triumph in the knockout tournament.

Very few would have given them a chance at the beginning of the tournament but Simfukwe and his charges defied the odds to win their first SwaziBank Cup in the tournament’s 12-year-old history. Surprisingly, the ‘Buccaneers’ were overlooked for the Stanley Matsebula award.

Interviewed during the tournament’s prize presentation ceremony at the Royal Swazi Sun Convention Centre yesterday, Simfukwe said he would not have been considered had it not been for his hard fighting charges.

For his achievement, he received a floating trophy plus E8 500. “I am just a loss for words. As you can see, everyone in the team is so excited. I am no exception. This is the best thing to happen to the Moneni Pirates’ family. I am so happy and grateful that I was named the best coach. “The truth is that I could not have done it without my players.

Their hard work has paid off. At times they would complain about the training, saying it was too tough but they never gave up. They remained focussed. I am so happy for them,” said the Zambian strategist who led Mbabane Highlanders to the trophy in 2010.

Simfukwe said following their win, they would strive to finish the MTN League on a high by winning the remaining games. “I cannot forget to thank SwaziBank because this is one tournament that motivated the players to fight harder and in the process it makes our job as coaches much easier. It is really a great tournament and I wish the bank many more prosperous years to come,” he said.
