MBABANE – Following a shady performance against basement side RSSC United last Sunday, which almost saw them lose the game, Mbabane Highlanders players have been told to up their game as the season nears an end.

The club’s Managing Director, Bheki ‘Rubber’ Simelane, met with the players on Monday afternoon to have a word with them after what he termed a not-so-good performance by the club against RSSC United who they struggled against but luckily won 3-2 and confirmed the sugar-belt side’s relegation.

According to some players who spoke on condition of anonymity, the MD was livid that they almost gave three points away to a team that had only won once all season and was bound to be relegated.

“The boss was not impressed with our game and had to address us. He didn’t even give us our match-winning bonuses on Sunday because he was too angry at us and asked to meet us the next day but indicated we’d only get the bonuses after the meeting,” said one of the players.
Another who was asked about the meeting said it was a team-building meeting more than anything and for them it was a good thing as it had been a while since they had a team talk with their MD.

“He asked us to triple our efforts and play our normal game not what we did on Sunday against RSSC. He then thanked us for fighting to a win but made it clear that if that’s how we’re going to play in the last games then we were not going anywhere in the league and we understand him,” said a third player.
