MBABANE – In its quest to align with FIFA and CAF requirements to have development at elite club level, the PLS has said it expected that the introduction of the Under-13s and 17s will see the leagues complementing the other as feeders.

PLS Development Officer Dumsani ‘DU’ Sibandze, who excitedly announced the good news last Friday, said yesterday the latest would completely change local football for the better and also go down in history for the country’s football development.

“This is not just for the PLS but the country as a whole and my mandate is to ensure that all the 12 elite teams we have now have the junior teams ready by the end of their season. We already have the Reserve League which focuses on Under-20s so now we’re adding the Under-17s to feed the U20s then the U13s will feed the 17s,” he said. He said with the junior leagues feeding the other, the elite clubs were bound for a bright future as all these juniors were expected to grow and become elite stars as was already happening two seasons into the Reserve League.

Asked if relegated RSSC United, whose Under-20s were struggling to attend games, were also part of the two latest leagues, Sibandze said all current 12 teams must be represented. He said the leagues would run concurrently during the off season for three months as they expected them to be finished before the exams.
