MHLUME – The intensity of the armed forces derby between Royal Leopard and Green Mamba transcended from the players to the benches, with both teams’ coaches engaging in a verbal stand-off

This incident, which warranted intervention by Match Commissioner Wallace Mabuza, occurred midway through the first half, sparked by a rough tackle by Leopard defender Sifiso ‘Sushi’ Nkambule on Green Mamba midfielder Mandla ‘Spikiri’ Mkhwanazi at Nsukuwansuku Stadium, Mhlume.

Leopard’s Sifiso ‘Nuro’ Ntibane and Green Mamba’s Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati exchanged heated words soon after the incident during the brief stop after Ntibane reacted to something that was said by Vilakati who was complaining over the way his player had been fouled.

The gaffers could not come to an agreement and the argument escalated, with raised voices from both coaches.
It even got to the point whereby Vilakati crossed over to Ntibane so they could talk at close range.
Vilakati acknowledged the incident but claimed that it was not a confrontation.

“All I did was to tell him (Ntibane) that he should talk to his players about the rough play. We have a duty as coaches to protect our players and reprimand them when they play in such a dangerous manner. This is what I also told (Wallace) Mabuza. There was no confrontation between us.”
Ntibane could not be reached for comment as his mobile phone was not available at the time of going to press.

Meanwhile, there was another incident arising from muti scares where Green Mamba sympathisers wanted people associated with Royal Leopard to move away from the back of the post which Leopard were attacking.
