LOBAMBA – Tactically, they were much better but the end result was still very much disappointing for Sihlangu.

Once again, South Africa’s Bafana Bafana proved their supremacy over the national side Sihlangu, whom they beat 3-1, in front of over 5 000 soccer lovers at Somhlolo National Stadium last night.

On November 15, 2013, Bafana Bafana had a field day at the same venue before whacking a hesitant Sihlangu team 3-0. Last night, it was a different story. Well, almost. Sihlangu died with their boots on and with the little dignity left still intact despite the defeat against a not-so-mean-looking Bafana Bafana side that also failed to really impress.

For longer spells of the free-flowing clash, Sihlangu matched their opponents pound for pound and at times threatened to ‘steal’ the game right from under the South Africans’ noses. However, a combination of factors ensured the nation’s pride were once again left with the wooden part of the spoon.

The visitors were far from impressive on the night. They instead capitalised on some sloppy defending in the last half and lapse in concentration at the Sihlangu rearguard to win the game. Sihlangu created decent chances but failed to convert most.

Like he has often done so many times before, lanky attacker Felix ‘Fela’ Badenhorst pulled one back for the squad four minutes after the hour mark to bring Sihlangu back into the game. He scored with a magnificent left footer inside the danger area after a terrific flick on by substitute striker Sandile Hlatjwako, who had replaced a struggling Phinda Dlamini in the last half.

sihlangu did well than expected. but the goalkeeping was very poor on the night. en what seemed to be a problem was the mentality of the players. it looked like Sihlangu were playing for a draw or lose with a small margin rather than winning the game. Sihlangu only raised the tempo after havin conceded. i personally think sihlangu could have drawn or won the game they were moments where we seemed to really threaten the visitors. though still not up to scratch, our ball possession en mobility in attack has really improved. we just needed to approach the game with a winning mentality.yes the visitors are still technically superior and their brilliance individually is above ours but we could have done better. the visitors played more like they were the hosts yesterday. however, when Felix scored it was so attractive to see the swazis up on their feet showing so much love for their team despite the so much disappointment they have endured from the poor results for a long time now
