MBABANE – The FA was only able to save slightly over E800 000 from the 2014 financial year E5 Million Sihlangu grant.

In fact, the association spent E4, 142 685 camps on among other things, players allowances, international friendly games and 2015 AFCON qualifier against Sierra Leone in June.

The figures are contained in the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs 2014/14 Performance Report tabled in parliament.
The team played five international friendly games during the past financial year against; Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania and Burkina Faso losing two, drawing two and winning once again Botswana. The total money available is E857 315.

The expenditure is as at February 28, 2015.
Acting FA CEO Futhi Dlamini said the right person to comment on the organisation’s finances was the incumbent CEO Frederick Mngomezulu who is currently in Sudan facilitating at a CAF course.

Sihlangu were given a E8.7 million grant for the financial year 2015/16 in the budget announced by Minister Martin Dlamini last week Friday in parliament. The amount saw an about E3.7 million increase from the one they have received in the past three years.

This means that the national team has received over E20 million from government since 2012, but it is yet to make an impact in international competition after crashing out of the AFCON qualifiers in the first hurdle, and also failed to make the knockout stage in the regional COSAFA Cup held in Zambia in 2013.
