MBABANE – Royal Leopard’s participation in the CAF Confederations Cup last 16 of the preliminary games will not come cheap.

The team is expected to spend half a million for the home and away matches against Angola’s Petro de Luanda. Leopard reached the round of 16 after beating favourites in South Africa’s Bidvest Wits 9-8 after penalties to qualify for the next round. Royal Leopard will host Petro de Luanda in the first leg tie on March 14. The game will be played at Somhlolo National Stadium, kick-off 3pm.

The second leg match is scheduled for April 3 in Luanda, Angola. Leopard Public Relations Officer (PRO) Frank Hurube confirmed yesterday. He said for now they had drafted a budget of E520 000 for both the home and away matches. He said the budget included air tickets to Angola and referees’ allowances, air tickets and accommodation while in Angola.

“The half a million budget is not the actual figure. The budget may increase. We verified according to the current financial status, each ticket to and from Angola will cost around E7 500 and that is for a delegation of 25. We are still not aware where the match officials will come from,” he said.
Hurube said they were facing financial challenges and he requested companies and individuals to assist the team.

“We were impressed by the support we got from the nation while preparing for the game against Bidvest Wits. Now we are facing another challenge of going to play in Angola where we will be representing the country. We request some financial assistance from companies and individuals. Any form of help we will welcome it with both hands,” he said.

Hurube said the return game against Bidvest Wits costs them a lot of money as they spent close to E70 000 on match officials only. The match officials came from Zimbabwe.
