MBABANE – The SwaziBank Cup quarter finals draw yesterday produced four tricky games s the tournament lived up to its pay-off line ‘Ngiyo Ngiyo’.

The ‘pick of the draw’ was the clash between Manzini Sundowns against Mbabane Swallows.

This is an elite clash between two sides that have this season shared players with Swallows releasing talented winger Darren ‘Dazza’ Christie and midfielder Phinda Ginindza to Sundowns at the start of the season.

Both teams have good histories in this tournament while Sundowns are yet to win it after making two finals in 2004 and 2008. Swallows on the other hand have won it twice, the first in 2006 when they beat Malanti Chiefs 1-0 and their second in 2013 when they defeated the same side in the final – now Swallows are gunning for their third and a place in the CAF Confederations Cup.

The game, as per the fixture, will be the main act on Sunday at 4pm as the first clash will pit another tricky tie between First Division League best finishers Midas Mbabane City and Manzini Wanderers at 2pm.

However, the action starts on Saturday with yet another exciting double-header in a draw that those who attended it yesterday at the SwaziBank Auditorium felt it was fair. First to decide the semi-finalists on Saturday will be Moneni Pirates who take on Green Mamba at 2pm before the pulsating clash between rivals in the First Division last season Mbabane Highlanders and Red Lions at 4pm.

All games have been scheduled to be played at Somhlolo National Stadium.

“Everyone here definitely thinks I’m speaking for the last time in this tournament and yes, it is a tough draw for us which we had not wanted as Sundowns. Nonetheless we have been in two finals before and now we need to win the tournament which means we’ll fight to achieve just that. When the semi-finals draw is done, Sundowns will be here. We have a five-game winning streak now but Swallows have lost to Zesco so that should sound a warning; Basop because we’re out to add this trophy to our cabinet,” Sundowns PRO Muzi Matsenjwa said of the draw. He minced no words that this will undoubtedly be a great game of football, a thriller with all the fireworks and one that every football loving fan must see. His rival, Swallows acting CEO Sibusiso Manana, who just returned from Zambia, said they were now used to such intimidation.

“Many have tried to intimidate us ahead of games but in the end they get nothing. I don’t even recall when was the last time Sundowns won over us and we expect things to stay this way. We have tasted what it feels like to win this trophy and want to lift it again,” he said.
