PLS SET TO APPEAL DC’S DERBY VERDICT

MBABANE – The Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) is most likely to appeal the derby mayhem verdict issued by the Disciplinary Committee (DC) yesterday.
PLS prosecutor Desmond Manda, interviewed shortly after the verdict was issued yesterday, hinted that they would appeal against the verdict.

“However, we obviously have to take instructions from the organisation. It cannot be our decision. We are obviously not happy with the verdict but there is little one can say at this moment, pending instructions from the organisation,” he said.

Highlanders successfully appealed against an initial DC verdict, which ordered that they should pay a E103 000 fine and also forfeit the game to their rivals Mbabane Swallows.
This was after they were found guilty of having caused the abandonment of the game, which was played at the Somhlolo National Stadium in December last year.

PLS Chief Executive Officer (CEO) John Mazibuko could not be reached for comment at the time of going to press yesterday, as he was reportedly locked in a meeting.

When the game was called off by FIFA accredited referee Mbongiseni Fakudze, Swallows were enjoying what seemed to be an unassailable 4-1 lead with barely seven minutes of regulation time remaining.
When the mayhem erupted, police moved swiftly to attack rioting fans and dispersed them using their (police) armoured vehicles.
Highlanders will now look forward to the replay against their fiercest rivals and hope for a change in fortunes this time.
