MBABANE – The new-look Nhlangano Road Cycle Classic promises to be bigger and better.

All roads lead to Nhlangano Casino Royale situated next to the small town, where the event will take place on Saturday. Organisers’ representative, Rodney Young, said at least 300 cyclists were expected to be part of the event. The main race, covering a distance of 94km, will start at 6:30am.

“We expect no less than 300 cyclists as there are more events this year. As usual, participants from neighbouring countries like Botswana, Mozambique and even South Africa might show up.” The highlight of this year’s festivities is a new 30km race styled Nhlangano Town Criterium. As the names suggests, it will be staged around town, starting at 3pm. An 8km trail run set for 7:30am will also spice up the event.

Other races include the 60km and 30km.  Children will not miss out as they will sweat it out in mountain bike events. Participation in the children’s events costs E80. Seasoned local cyclist, Calvin Louw, set a new record of 02:56:09 hours to win the last race. Botswana’s Jabu Tabolane had clocked 02:58:15 hours in the previous edition of the race in 2012.
