BIG BEND – A ‘trigger happy’ Manzini Sundowns have thrashed a hapless Illovo by 3-0 to reach the last 16 of the SwaziBank Cup.

Having exited in the last 32 in recent editions of the tournament in 2012 and the following year, the green and yellow ensemble were wary when they visited the Lubombo Super League side at Mayaluka Stadium in Big Bend yesterday. Even though play was punctuated by unavoidable stops after a fan was stabbed on the sidelines and lights that suddenly went out due to lightning, the visitors defied all odds to send packing their tactically inept opposition.

Young Sundowns forward, Justice Figareito, unsettled the opposition as early as the second minute as he converted a Ndumiso ‘Sikhokho’ Shongwe cross from the right wing.

The promising forward turned provider on the stroke on half time as Mlamuli ‘Mlaba’ Nkambule doubled the tally with an easy tap-in from the former’s defence freezing pass.  Sundowns enjoyed the comfortable at the break.

The second period was a replica of the first as the home side could not trouble Sanda Mathabela at Sundowns’ goal. Mlamuli ‘Sputla’ Zwane’s charges deservedly put the game to bed through dazzling winger, Darren ‘Christie, who outpaced defender, Bryan Vilane, to fire home from close range nine minutes from time.
