‘BULL’ DEFENDER LEE PASSES ON!
MBABANE – The football fraternity is mourning the untimely death of Mbabane Highlanders defender, Lee Vilakati.
The player, who shot to fame in the 2012/13 season at the black and white ensemble, was studying Forestry in Zimbabwe at the time of his death. His brother, Mveli, said the 23-year old succumbed to death while undergoing treatment at Good Shephered Hospital in Siteki yesterday.
“He was in the country in December and watched his team playing against Moneni Pirates. He had complained of tonsils and we took him to Mankayane Hospital late last year.
His condition worsened and he was transferred to Good Shephered. He had started to vomit blood and plans to transfer him to Witbank for further check-ups were being made.”
Highlanders PRO, Celucolo ‘Dino’ Dlamini, said his office was informed about the devastating reports.
“We’ve just been informed about the incident. We send our deepest condolences to the player’s family and the entire football fraternity.
As a team we were expecting the player to re-join the team fully on completion of his two-year programme. He was a very promising player with a bright future.”
Vilakati joined Highlanders from National First Division outfit, Ludzeludze Killers, on-loan from Young Buffaloes.
