BIG BEND – Caleb Ngwenya’s Midas City side did not need to apply second gear to progress to the next round of the SwaziBank Cup at the expense of Sikhalo SeAfrika.

Instead, Linda Msibi became the first scorer in the 12th edition of the tournament, netting with only 16 minutes played in the game. And that was 48 minutes before second scorer, Hellenic’s Morrison Korombo, did against Manzini Sea Birds at the Somhlolo National Stadium in another of the first games of the competition.

City were in total control of the match especially in the first half, which they hugely dominated, but managed one strike. Msibi, a former Royal Leopard player, headed home from a well taken corner kick by Mthunzi Motsa to ease the nerves at his side technical bench. But there was no other goal until six minutes after the hour mark, when veteran forward Sidumo Dlamini outpaced the defence from the half way line before slicing a shot past goalkeeper.

However, the Siteki based ensemble had threatened early in the second half, but they still could not trouble goalkeeper Phephisani Msibi at City’s goals.
Sikhalo were far from upsetting Midas City in the match, and in all honesty Midas City did not sweat to advance to the next stage of the tournament.
