PLS SAYS INVESTIGATION FINDINGS WERE INTERNAL

MBABANE – The Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) will not hand over their findings to Mbabane Highlanders, as per the Disciplinary Committee (DC’s) instruction.

The National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS’) DC on Thursday last week ordered the PLS to submit findings on the derby mayhem to Mbabane Highlanders before the matter can proceed. Highlanders are facing a charge of causing the abandonment of their MTN League first round encounter against traditional rivals Mbabane Swallows. The game, which was eventually abandoned with more or less eight minutes of play remaining, was played at Somhlolo National Stadium about three weeks ago.

“Unfortunately, the inquiry, which was conducted by the organisation on the derby mayhem, was primarily instituted to determine whether the PLS chairman (Victor Gamedze) was still the right man to lead the organisation or not. As an organisation, we discovered what we wanted to find out and we then convened a press conference, which was held on the next day where we made our findings public.

“You will recall that we are not a disciplinary body and we do not try cases. Our investigations were just an internal matter that has nothing to do with the Mbabane Highlanders’ ongoing case before the DC. In short, we cannot be forced to submit internal findings.

“As we see it, those findings have nothing to do with the case. We are an independent body with the right to conduct our own investigations and we cannot, therefore, be forced to reveal these,” a source close to the organisation confided to this newspaper yesterday.

However, PLS Executive Member Steve Horton refused to shed light on the matter when questioned on their latest stance yesterday.
“We will respond to the DC but I cannot say what will happen because we have to respect the DC and football in general,” he said.

PLS Chief Executive Officer (CEO) John Mazibuko shared the same sentiments, saying until they submit their response to the DC, they will not say a word.
The DC gave the PLS up until today at noon to furnish Highlanders with their findings.
