‘KOKI’ TO CRACK THE WHIP AT MAMBA

LOBAMBA – Temperamental Green Mamba mentor Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati has passed a vote of no confidence against some of the side’s players following a shocking 1-2 loss to Red Lions.

The green and white outfit’s hopes of ending the year on a high note were dashed by a spirited Red Lions outfit in an MTN Premier League encounter played at Somhlolo National Stadium on Friday night. An obviously disappointed Vilakati, in a post match interview, felt he needed to get rid of some of the players as they were no longer adding value to the side.
“We didn’t come to the party at all. It’s disappointing when even other players come in from the bench and add no value at all.

I have to show people the door because they don’t want to deliver. The poor performance raises eyebrows to the management. The cutting edge is no longer there. I don’t mind remaining with only 11 competitive players.”
The reputable coach said the defence and the strike force were the key departments that needed strengthening during the January transfer window period.

Green Mamba failed to find their rhythm against the adventurous opposition who stamped their authority as early as the ninth minute. Lanky Red Lions defender Siphilile Sihlongonyane drew first blood from a goal mouth scramble after a Ricky Sibiya initial shot left the defence at sixes and sevens. The visitors enjoyed a narrow lead at the break.

Green Mamba, who won the Castle Premier Challenge in October, looked promising after the restart, cancelling the lead in style through enterprising forward, Banele ‘Bunny’ Dlamini, who fired home beautifully outside the box after slow build-ups to stun Mxolisi Dlamini at the Red Lions poles.

Red Lions still had their foot on the accelerator and they still pressed on, restoring the lead through Sibusiso Mabelesa, who volleyed home from close range from an Enzo Motsa cross from the left wing, six minutes later. The teams had chances to put the game to bed towards the end but it was the red and white outfit who had the last laugh, making amends for their 2-5 loss to Manzini Wanderers in the last fixture. The result meant Green Mamba had failed to record a win in the league against the returnees this season as the first round encounter had ended 3-all.  Green Mamba finished 2014 ranked sixth with 18 points in 13 matches.
