LOBAMBA – As the second round entered its second week in the MTN Premier League, relegation-threatened Malanti Chiefs could breathe a sigh of relief as they beat basement side RSSC United with striker Dumisani ‘DU’ Kunene bagging a hat-trick.

The result, which was much needed for Malanti, who were second from the bottom before yesterday, saw them rise up to third bottom as Manzini Sea Birds who were ahead of them lost 3-1 to Manzini Wanderers on Friday night.
Malanti now have 12 points, three above Sea Birds and one behind Red Lions who are just above them. The result also meant RSSC will need a miracle to escape the dreaded axe as they currently have four meagre points at the bottom and have only recorded one win in 13 games which are signs of a relegation team.

They just could not match Malanti who had it all easy against the sugar-belt side under the scorching heat. South African striker Dumisani ‘DU’ Kunene opened his account in the 11th after beating an off-side trap. He scored his second in the 25th, again the Malanti defence tried an off side trap but the striker did well to time his run and then beat the goalkeeper Colani Mngometulu who could do little under the circumstances.
He then finished off his hat-trick in five minutes into the second half, converting from the spot-kick which was a result of a foul on winger Tebogo Motale inside the box by defender Atteze Ameka. However, Malanti had gone into the break leading 3-0 as overlapping defender Siyabonga Nkambule scored from a goalmouth squabble.

While Malanti undoubtedly dominated proceedings, RSSC did get a couple of good chances to pull one back but they were all in vain as their trusted striker Ugochukwu Ohakwe tried but was denied by some good goalkeeping from national team Sihlangu’s current number Nhlanhla Gwebu.

In the end, the road to the MTN National First Division League seems to be getting much clearer for RSSC as the games entered Week 13 but they still have four points.
