EZULWINI – At least E16 500 was up for grabs during the Phela-Live Wellness Centre Super Eight Knockout tournament.

Ezulwini Sports Ground was a hive of activity as the Gables-based gymnasium staged a football tournament yesterday. Social teams from neighbouring areas, that are mainly clients of Phela-Live, battled it out for the E7 000 first prize.

Participating teams were Lobamba Police, Pick ‘n’ Pay, Happy Valley, Ezulwini Town Council, Swaziland Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (SPTC) and Bull Dog, among others.

Marketing Manager Nomsa Dlamini could not maintain a straight face in excitement following the success of the festivities, saying making the event annual was in the pipeline. “We plan to make it bigger next time by bringing on board more sporting codes.
We’re promoting that people should be active, so we have to give back to the community by having an event that will make people exercise while also promoting sports.”

Club General Manager Kenneth Hlophe felt the games provided a platform to establish relationships with potential partners. Teams finishing in second and third positions were expected to pocket E5 000 and E3 000, respectively. There were individual prizes for Top Goal Scorer, Player of Series and Best Goalkeeper who got E500 apiece.

Phela-Live was launched by Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala in September. The minister was invited during yesterday’s celebrations.
