MBABANE – While many celebrate their early pay and prepare to spend on these festive holidays, employees of the abolished Swaziland National Sports Council (SNSC) have still not been paid for four months.

The staff members who found themselves at home after the dissolution of the council, did not receive any retrenchment letters, or gratuity as they were promised that they would be catered for by the ministry of Sports which was supposed to inherit them as the human capital part of the assets.

On Wednesday, Minister David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala announced a new Board headed by former Manzini Wanderers former Director Lawrence Lolo Mthethwa for the newly-incepted Swaziland National Sports and Recreation Council (SNSRC) which is the new umbrella body for sports associations in the country.

“It is true that the people have still not been paid up to this time but we are working tirelessly to deal with this sensitive issue and the Board knows about it. The first Board meeting is tonight (yesterday) as the Board starts work immediately. I gave them letters of employment today. This is a major part of their assignment.

They have to resolve this and other issues, and I have no doubt that the chairman will give answers soon as to how they will move to resolve this matter,” the minister said.

Meanwhile, Mthethwa declined to comment deeply on the issue, only confirming that they would be meeting and this issue would be top of the agenda, but due to the nature of its sensitivity he could not commit to that they would work to have the staff members remunerated before Christmas on Wednesday.
