LOBAMBA – National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) President Adam ‘Bomber’ Mthethwa has finally broken his silence on his absence during the ill fated derby played two weeks ago.

Mthethwa, speaking yesterday during the unveiling of the new Swaziland National Sports and Recreation Council Board at the Technical Centre, said he could not proceed to watch the game after hearing on national radio that the Prime Minister, Sibusiso Dlamini was already at Somhlolo National Stadium.

“I was on my way to Somhlolo National Stadium on the said day coming from home. I was already late but luckily I heard the announcer on radio saying kick off had been delayed and the game would kick off at 4pm.

“However, when the presenter announced that the prime minister was already at the stadium, I knew then that I could not make it because of protocol. In short, the protocol stopped me because I could not go to the stadium when the prime minister was already there,” said Mthethwa.
He was speaking in the presence of the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala, PS in the ministry Prince Mlayeto and the newly-appointed Board members.

He also implored the newly-appointed Board members to ensure that they leave a mark while executing their duties.

The derby was abandoned with more or less eight minutes remaining with red and white glamour giants Mbabane Swallows leading 4-1 against their traditional rivals Mbabane Highlanders.

Highlanders have since been charged for causing the abandonment of the game.
