LOBAMBA – The Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs has announced major changes following the training drama involving giants Mbabane Highlanders and Mbabane Swallows.

The country’s football heavyweights caused a stir when they trained side by side at Somhlolo National Stadium, a facility owned by government, on December 4, ahead of their clash which was scheduled to be played three days later. The Ministry’s Principal Secretary Prince Mlayeto, said bookings for the venue would no longer be done through the office of Director of Sports, Sipho Magagula, but that of Principal Accountant, Mlungisi Dlamini, pending ongoing investigations on the matter. He made the announcement during a press briefing at the ministry’s offices yesterday.

“It must be clear that Magagula has not been sidelined but his office will not process the bookings for Somhlolo pending the investigations,” said the PS. Both teams had a green light from the ministry to use the facility on the fateful day but Highlanders had reportedly arrived earlier than scheduled.

Meanwhile, the prince said his office’s hands were tied on the regrettable violent scenes witnessed on the day of the derby. The teams were charged by the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS). They are due to appear before the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) Disciplinary Committee before the end of the week.
