MANZINI – Youngsters Sandziso Tsabedze and Siphandla Maseko seem to be on the threshold of greatness after qualifying for the international Copa Coca Cola camp.

The duo follows on the footsteps of parents in retired soccer stars, Simon Tsabedze and Jabulani ‘Codesa’ Maseko, respectively. The pair donned the famous colours of Royal Leopard and Green Mamba, in that order.

Sandziso, aged 14, from St Christopher’s and Siphamandla from Ngwane High in Manzini who is a year younger were selected as the cut above the rest during the Copa Coca Cola School Ball Games played over two months ago.

The two players who play in midfield could not maintain straight faces in excitement when they left for a week camp in Pretoria, South Africa from the George Hotel in Manzini yesterday.
Sandziso scored the winner in his school’s 2-1 triumph over Qomintaba in the semi-finals of the schools soccer tournament. His school lost 0-1 to Ngwane in the final.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity and I hope the camp will help shape me to become a star.”
Siphamandla also felt the opportunity would help him realise his goals of making a name for himself in the beautiful  game and play for Green Mamba.

The players’ proud parents thanked Copa Cola Cola for giving their sons a platform to shine, saying they would ensure that the future stars take education seriously as well.
While in South Africa, the youngsters will be exposed to the best training facilities, best coaches and rub shoulders with fellow young players and experienced football experts from other countries.

“I thank the Commissioner General as well as my son is trained by Green Mamba development coach, ‘Haiso’ Dlamini,” said ‘Codesa’ who also played for Sihlangu before hanging up his soccer boots in 2008.
Other notable players that were once picked to leave the country were Simphiwe Makhanya and Nhlanhla Mahlalela who now play for Midas City and RSSC, respectively. They left for England to rub shoulders with English League giants, Chelsea.

Swaziland Beverages Brand Marketing Manager Marcelle Fortune expressed her office’s gratitude on the continued partnership in the initiative.
The players connected a shuttle to the King Mswati III International Airport after 10am yesterday for the all expenses paid trip. Also present was the Swaziland Schools Sports Association (SSSA) Executive Commitee led by President Celucolo ‘Dino’ Dlamini.
