Good morning, colleagues, friends and stakeholders in the Swazi sporting fraternity. In introducing TZD Sports Management, one would wish to disclose that it is a company that seeks to elevate local sports to another level by managing players, coaches, legends teams as well as organising and delivering memorable sporting events while also assisting teams realise their potential and goals in this sector loved by billions all over the world.

What is of principal importance in the organisation is making sure that sport remains a sector that unifies masses and improves individual sportspersons’ lives through their respective talents, in one way or the other by making sure that integrity and guiding sporting principles are upheld in the highest possible manner.

In our maiden column we wish to bring everyone up to speed on what they can expect in our forthcoming columns especially by giving a proper message of what we wish to send to the readers.

It is also important that we introduce our integral part in driving local sports to the desired destination, which is the TZD Swazi Legends. The aim of the Legends is to share their various experiences and expertise with upcoming young stars in the country. It is imperative that they tackle challenges with young stars particularly those involved in soccer.

We have all seen former players, who made a name for themselves in the past and were regarded as heroes by most, but only for them to end up on the streets as literal beggars when their colourful careers came to an abrupt end. It is the gospel truth that there are many challenges in the sport especially since football comes with great fame and if unmanaged properly it can destroy an otherwise promising star. Our soccer stars tend to forget what actually makes them famous is a short term part of their young lives.

They also forget that education is key to every success, hence they neglect school and become big headed, feeling they are bigger than their teachers just because of fame.

Our young stars will, therefore, be taken through the wide opportunities that are availed by taking part in sports as there is life after sports. The Legends will assist them with strategies they can use to fulfil their dreams and still use football as a way of life after playing it. They will get to know that they can be physical education teachers at various schools once their careers in the sport are over and they can take up careers in coaching and become soccer analysts in various television and radio stations like some legendary Swazi players have become in top South African television stations.

This column will further have one-on-one interviews with the country’s yesteryears stars, who will tell us in detail how they made it to the top and eventually played for the national team, Sihlangu, and basically tell the readers where they are currently.

Expect to see the likes of William ‘Cool Cat’ Shongwe, who is now goalkeeper coach at South Africa’s SuperSport United and soccer analyst at top South African television station SuperSport. You will also see the likes of Jerry ‘Mbazo’ Gamedze and Nhlanhla ‘Kid’ Maphanga, both of who are now occupying top positions in the private sector, Osborne ‘Ozila’ Nzima, who is now a top Manzini-based lawyer and Sipho ‘Shilton’ Dube, who is Sihlangu goalkeeper coach.

Others that form part of the TZD Swazi Legends and could appear in the column include Jomo Cosmos’ assistant coach Siza ‘King Pele’ Dlamini, Sibusiso ‘Spoko’ Dlamini, Mfanuzile ‘Fash’ Dlamini, Turbie ‘Washisha Gwebu’ Terblanche, Comfort ‘Zico’ Mkoko, Celumusa ‘Sis’ Monica’, Barnes Mkhulisi, Moses ‘Viv Anderson’ Khumalo and Ankel ‘Malume’ Dlamini to mention a few.

It is a promise that we will have one of the Legends giving us his experience in our next column, but for now we will keep it a surprise as to who it will be.
On a parting note, last month, our Legends were invited to take part in a game against their Mozambican counterparts during celebrations hosted by Mozambique’s former President Joachim Chissano and the return match will be played in the country on December 13, 2014.

This is where local soccer followers will get to watch Mozambican Legends such as Matthews ‘Chaka Chaka’ Mandlazi and Manuel ‘Tico Tico’ Bucuane to mention a few.
Until next week, keep looking forward to our next edition.
