MBABANE – As they look to be among competitors for the MTN Premier League title, Manzini Sundowns have boosted their technical bench by hiring Ethiopian Antene Ashene as their Technical Director.

This is also in line with the CAF Club Licensing requirements which call for all elite clubs to have fully-fledged structures that include Technical Director (TD).

“I currently don’t have as much details but it’s true, we have a new man in the name of Antene Ashene if I’m pronouncing it rightly, from Ethiopia, who has joined us as the team’s Technical Director,” confirmed the club’s PRO Muzi Matsenjwa when asked about the issue yesterday.
He said the team’s Chairman Mark Carmichael was someone who always wants professionalism at Sundowns hence the addition of the TD who is a must under the FIFA/CAF requirements for all elite teams.

“He is already in the country but will officially start working on Monday. For now he’ll be able to watch our final training session today (yesterday) and also our game at the Manzini Club which is the first elite match in our stadium,” he said.

He also said the new man was based in South Africa before he moved to the country to be part of the Basop’ IKappa Kappa ensemble which plays city rivals Red Lions at 3pm. He then invited their supporters and those of the opposition to cram the tiny Manzini Club Stadium whereby they will be treated to the best of football in a family friendly environment.
