SITEKI – A Swazi man miraculously survived after he was shot four times while in Durban South Africa about two weeks ago.

Sandile Sifundza, who is originally from Siteki, believed to be in his early 20s, is currently recuperating at the R.K Khan Hospital in Chatsworth in Durban following the shooting incident.

Details of the incident are sketchy following Sifundza’s reluctance to comment when a questionnaire was sent to him through the popular social networking site Facebook yesterday morning.

He was adamant that he did not want the matter publicised.
He did, however, confirm the incident adding that he was shot outside his house but did not state what the bone of contention was.
In a Facebook post, the former Good Shepherd High School pupil said he was shot by a friend and somebody he believed was a Swazi but did not reveal the name of his attacker.

He told his friends that he was shot four times; twice in the chest, once in the arm and once in the leg.
He further stated in the post that three of the bullets which were lodged in his body had successfully been removed adding that only one bullet had still not been extracted from his body.

Sifundza’s grandmother Nkhonzaphi Gamedze, who resides in Mpolonjeni near Siteki, said the family was devastated upon being informed of her grandson’s shooting.

“I was informed about his shooting over the past weekend by his uncle who is based in Johannesburg. A member of the family has already visited him and we are happy to know that he is recovering,” said Gamedze, while also stating that she did not know the circumstances around the shooting incident. “I was informed that they were fighting over a hat when his friend opened fire. However, I do not believe that since nobody can shoot a person over something so minor,” she said.

She further stated that Sifundza left home for South Africa to seek employment some years back.
She revealed that Sifundza studied welding and metal work in the country before migrating to Durban.
Sifundza’s attack comes at a time when the whole of South Africa has been shocked by the shooting of football star Senzo Meyiwa on Sunday. Meyiwa, it is believed, was shot from close range by attackers while he was visiting his girlfriend pop singer Kelly Khumalo.

As a result of Meyiwa’s death, the iconic footballing match between Kaizer Chiefs and traditional rivals Orlando Pirates, which was billed for Saturday, has since been postponed.
