MANZINI – SNAT has succumbed to pressure from its membership and will convene an extra ordinary general meeting in two weeks’ time to discuss the alleged corruption within the association.

Secretary General Muzi Mhlanga issued the notice inviting all bona fide members of the Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) to an EOGM to be held at the Bosco Skills Centre on November 8, 2014.

The notice comes at a time when the teachers’ organisation’s national Executive Committee (NEC) has been taken to court by five of its members who were demanding that the EOGM be held instead of a normal annual general meeting.

This, however, does not mean that the association has cancelled its intended AGM.
SNAT has also issued a notice inviting all teachers in the country to attend the AGM, also to be held at the Bosco Skills centre in Manzini at 10am on Saturday.

According to the notice issued by the SNAT secretary general, teachers will receive an update on negotiations, court cases against the organisation, as well as receive a report on the TUCOSWA t-shirts saga.

Also included on the day’s agenda is the matter of the 10 member NEC’s Ipad phone bill amounting to E149 000 which is said to have been incurred in four months. The meeting is open to all teachers, even those who are not affiliated to SNAT, and this has been the bone of contention with the SNAT members. Members of SNAT have registered their concern at the fact that no resolutions can be taken during the annual general meeting.

This, they said, was the reason they felt it was pertinent for the organisation to host an EOGM as only during such a meeting can they make resolutions and recommendations which can be implemented within the organisational structures of the organisation.
