MANZINI – The teacher from Mhlahlo High School who has been missing for about a month has been found dead in a forest in neighbouring South Africa.

The teacher, Melusi Lwazi Dlamini (26), had been reported missing over a month ago by his distraught mother until the recent discovery of his corpse.
According to information gathered from those close to the matter, Melusi was found dead on September 15, 2014 in the thick forests of Carolina in South Africa.

It was revealed that the corpse was found by a young boy who was herding cattle through the dense forest when he stumbled upon the body of the teacher.
The boy is said to have alerted the nearby police and showed them the grisly find.
“Melusi’s body was found by a herd boy and it is believed that he had been dead for a while before the body was discovered. South African Police Service (SAPS) who examined the body suspect that he had ingested a poisonous substance which may have then led to his demise,” the source said.  The strong smell of a poisonous substance is said to have made the police reach this conclusion.

SAPS were able to positively identify the deceased as his passport was found in his pockets and the Royal Swaziland Police were notified. It is said that the police were able to further establish that the deceased had crossed the Ngwenya/Oshoek Border Gate on September 7, 2014 on foot. It is unknown where he had been residing until the time he met his death and the discovery of his corpse a week later.

Melusi deceased had been teaching at Mhlahlo High School for the past two years after graduating from the University of Swaziland (UNISWA), where he had been  pursuing studies in Animal Science at Luyengo Campus in 2012.

He was last seen by his mother on August 30, 2014. Melusi, an Agriculture teacher at the school located in the dusty area of Sigombeni, was teaching Form II and III for the past two years. On the day of his disappearance, Melusi is said to have made himself breakfast, ironed his clothing and left the family home very early.

This was 10 days after receiving his monthly pay. The teacher did not tell anyone where he was headed to when he left home almost a month ago.
In an earlier interview, his mother Janet Dlamini who is also a former teacher herself, said her son had never disappeared in such a manner in the past. She had said Melusi had no financial issues and seemed to be in good spirits on the days leading to his disappearance.

Janet had also expressed her concern that his continued disappearance may also lead to him losing his employment at the local school located a couple of kilometres away from the home also within Sigombeni.
During a visit to the school his colleagues had stated that the last time the Agriculture teacher was seen was at the closure of the second term.
Police Deputy Information and Communications Officer  Assistant Superintendent Khulani Mamba confirmed the matter. He said Melusi, who had been reported missing by his mother last month, was found dead in South Africa.

“Although there are certain factors that have led our South African counterparts to believe that Dlamini may have ingested a poisonous substance, we are yet to investigate the cause of death through a post-mortem that will be conducted in the country,” Mamba said.
