MANZINI – The Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) is working on the suspension of its secretary general.
Teachers resolved to have Muzi Mhlanga suspended during their biennial conference three weeks ago.

Freedom Dlamini, the new President of the teachers’ association, said the decision on the suspension of the secretary general would be dealt with in line with the constitution of the organisation.
He said he was aware that teachers out there were eagerly looking forward to seeing Mhlanga being suspended.

“We are aware of the pressure and people are calling us to find out why he has not been suspended to date,” Dlamini said.
Dlamini said the resolution to suspend Mhlanga would be implemented when they were sure the matter was dealt with constitutionally.
“People need to understand the meaning of urgent resolution. We understand they were very vocal and passionate and wanted things to be done there and then yet we have to follow the rules,” he said.

He explained that even the conflict within the organisation that led to urgent resolution did not begin during the previous term.

Concerned

“This is a long standing issue and it will take a long time to solve it. All the people concerned here should be brought forward to state their case,” he said.
Another issue that Dlamini said he was going to work on as a matter of priority is the affiliation of SNAT to the Trade Union Congress of Swaziland (TUCOSWA).

He said they were trying to weigh options on how best they could remain affiliates without having to spend a lot of money on the federation.
“This, also, is a process that will involve a lot of dialogue. We will handle it properly without having to blackmail or threaten,” he said.
