NKANDLA – The much anticipated traditional wedding of Princess Fikisiwe and Khulubuse Zuma did not take place at South African President Jacob Zuma’s controversial Nkandla homestaed.
This was much against expectations that the traditional wedding would take place at the president’s home.

The lavish wedding was held at Khulubuse’s multi-million home located a few metres away from his uncle’s Nkandla homestead.
The homestead boasts six sprawling stucco villas and two double storey houses all fitted with opulent decor and state of the art electronic gadgets.

The opulent home is almost out of place in the valley of Nkandla, plagued by adverse water shortages. The foliage surrounding the area is short sharp and stubby and the veld is filled with thorns synonymous with areas troubled by drought. As one walks away from the home which is built within a steep crevice in the mountainous area, one is taken aback by the dirt and litter that is scattered all over the veld which is scattered with home clusters consisting of one or two grass-thatched huts per home.

At Khulubuse’s home, giant marquees were placed all over the home, and some were used exclusively for the Swazi entourage’s pleasure and comfort. The marquee used by the Swazi entourage was filled with beautifully crafted couch sets and the over 500 delegation fit comfortably in it.

Smaller marquees were placed all over the home and these were used as resting rooms for important guests as well as serving areas for numerous bars and food courts. Food served in the VVIP section and the normal public eating areas was the same and it never ran out.
