LOBAMBA – Prime Minister (PM) Sibusiso Barnabas Dlamini yesterday said Parliament is losing its respect and dignity because there were too many personality clashes.

“All legislators must follow the saying usually used in football structures that one should play the ball and not the man,” Dlamini said.
He said, as legislators, there were too many personalities involved and instead of focusing on the job at hand they focused on individuals.
“This is why sometimes you hear that they say certain individuals must be fired,” said Dlamini.

The PM made these remarks after Deputy Senate President Ngomuyayona Gamedze had asked why Parliament was not being taken seriously.
The PM further stated that all issues could easily be addressed during a caucus meeting or with the Joint House Committee.

“We were supposed to have a joint house committee this morning but for reasons unexplained to me, it was cancelled,” said Dlamini.
This was after Senator Meninjeni Mahlalela had also asked the PM to reconsider the welfare of deputy presiding officers stating that their benefits were discouraging yet when the substantive officers were away they did the same job.

On the other hand, Gamedze said the welfare of deputy presiding officers was wanting, stating that he was not just saying that because he occupied the position, but was also considering future office bearers.

The PM said although consultants were engaged for review the welfare of politicians in accordance with the wishes of the people during Sibaya, there was a need for the Joint House Committee to also meet on such issues.

He asked that the issues of personalities be set aside. On another note, the PM said Cabinet still worked as a collective unit which was the main core of their business stating that no one was just allowed to stray.
