MANZINI – Alleged serial killer and rapist Mpendulo Msibi has been replaced as an escort of Imbali from Ekujabuleni.
Ekujabuleni is an area under the Nkwene constituency.

Last year, Msibi, who is facing nine counts of murder in that he allegedly killed young girls ranging between 12 and 24 years in age, is said to have been questioned by police during last year’s Umhlanga ceremony.

Maidens

He had escorted the area’s maidens.
According to reports carried in local newspapers, Msibi was questioned for about two days before being released. Soon after his release, he rejoined the regiments. With thousands of maidens expected to grace this year’s ceremony, Mchaka Dlamini, the Indvuna of Nkwene, said authorities of the area saw it fit that they replaced Msibi.

“As we are speaking the girls are still assembling here, which means I cannot clearly state how many of them will be attending this year’s ceremony,” the indvuna said.
He mentioned that the imbali and the escorts would be briefed by elders on how they were expected to behave during the national event, which commenced yesterday.

Msibi, who was described as a quiet person by some maidens in an earlier interview, is alleged to have strangled his victims to death when committing the gruesome offences.

His family said the last time they had any contact with him was when he was escorted by about 13 heavily armed police officers to Ekujabuleni in Mankayane to inform his mother about the arrest.

This was on June 18, 2014.
According to the police, these women were killed by strangulation between 2012 and 2014, the youngest being 12 and the eldest being 24 years old.
