SNAT PRESIDENT SHOUTS ‘INYANDZALEYO’!
MANZINI – Swaziland National association of Teachers (SNAT) President Sibongile Mazibuko shouted inyandzaleyo! as she was allegedly threatened with assault during an executive meeting.
A shaken Mazibuko said she was threatened with assault after serving SNAT General secretary Muzi Mhlanga with a suspension letter during a heated meeting.
Mazibuko said Deputy President Solomon Mabila and Mhlanga were present during the meeting when tempers flared at the SNAT conference room.
Mazibuko said she disapproved a meeting and ordered it could not be proceed in the presence of the General Secretary, Muzi Mhlanga, who currently faces a matter where he allegedly purchased t-shirts worth E850 000 withput being mandated by the teachers’ union.
“I informed them that the meeting would not proceed with Mhlanga being part of it, which was my offence. I then gave Mhlanga the suspension letter which he tore in front of all the executive members. After he had torn the letter, which was written after an agreement with the general council, to suspend him, they both ganged up on me,” Mazibuko said.
The SNAT president further stated that Mabila shouted and said he was going to deal with her. she said when he came straight for her, a member of the executive tried intervening and calming the situation.
“Fearing for my life, I decided to shout for help and screamed ‘Inyandzaleyo’!. While attempting to escape from the room, Mhlanga blocked my path and said I should remain in the room and be part of the meeting.
“I managed to call the security personnel’s and fortunately they came to my rescue. I quickly stormed out of the conference room and was able to drive off unharmed,” Mazibuko said.
The SNAT president also revealed that the duo’s motive was to proceed with the said meeting and thereafter suspend her as president of the association.
Mazibuko further stated that another motive was to stop the extra-ordinary General Meeting which is going to be held at the SNAT Centre on Monday.
“They were all away in Zambia and I was the only one who could implement the resolution of the meeting for Monday. The resolution to suspend him as the secretary general for the association was made by the general council and I do have powers to suspend or discipline any member of the association, the constitution states. I was shocked when he tore the suspension letter and revealed that I had no powers to suspend him,” Mazibuko said.
She further revealed that she feared for her life hence she consulted the media. Mazibuko said she wanted all teachers to know about the assault incident as it was life threatening.
