MANZINI – A sickly robbery convict who was on crutches has escaped from the Manzini Magistrates Court.

The inmate, who is believed to have been very sickly during previous appearances at the magistrates court, to the extent that he would be lifted off the ground when being moved around, he has, however, managed to disappear.

On the day he disappeared, the inmate was on crutches and walked with the additional support of a Correctional officer.
Sibusiso Ndlovu (27) of Gelekeceni, Ezulwini, was last year sentenced to a total of 20 years imprisonment by the then Magistrate Fikile Nhlabatsi, now High Court Registrar. This was after he was found guilty of committing a series of robberies in different parts of the country in 2012.

While out on bail before he was sentenced, he committed two other robberies, theft of a motor vehicle and theft by false pretences.
He was rearrested and his bail revoked. When Ndlovu escaped while unguarded, his matter on fresh charges was due for judgment, however, it was postponed to another date.

He was escorted out of the building by a Correctional officer from Matsapha Maximum Prison and while outside the court premises, next to the parking lot, the officer informed him that he would be back shortly as he had to attend to other duties.

Upon his return, he discovered that Ndlovu was nowhere to be found. The alarm was raised and officers from the Royal Swaziland Police (RSP) had to be roped in to conduct a search for Ndlovu. The officers looked for the convict all around and outside the court building but in vain.
People who were within the vicinity were also asked about the whereabouts of the convict, however, they informed the officers that they did not notice where he had disappeared to.

Another person is said to have reliably informed the officers that he had seen Ndlovu, still on crutches, board a vehicle, which sped off after picking him from the parking lot.
Sources from the prosecution informed this reporter that it had been gathered that he had already skipped the country and he was on the police wanted list.

Ndlovu on February 14, 2012 together with one Mfanufikile Hlanze, at Extension 3, Mbabane attacked one Xolile Zwane at gunpoint and stole a vehicle, an Audi A3 valued at E65 000. He also stole her cellphone, a Sony Ericson (E4 500), a gold chain and cash (E250). All the items are valued at E72 000.

Again on June 6, 2012, at White City, Hlatikhulu he attacked one Evelyn Kalua by using force and violence to induce the submission of a Toyota RunX (E60 000), a laptop, digital camera, LG home theatre, TV set, a handbag, gold watch and bank cards.
All the items are valued at E70 090.
On February 17, 2012, Ndlovu, at President Centre, stole a white Toyota Hilux D4D valued at E120 000 in lawful possession of Simanga Nzima.

The convict further committed another offence in August near kaHlobile where he ordered one Mthandazo Dlamini to give him an amount of E35 000 under the pretext that he would sell him a Toyota RunX valued at the same amount thus stealing the said amount from the complainant.
Ndlovu would now and then appear in court carried by Correctional officers due to his undisclosed illness.

He would sometimes wear a wrapper instead of normal pants as he would complain of severe pains in his abdomen and pelvis area. His matters would also be postponed as he would also complain of tuberculosis (MDR).
