MBABANE – Swazi TV viewers could not watch their favourite soapie, Generations on Wednesday as the station experienced a blackout.
The blackout occurred just after 7pm and lasted for close to two hours.

The blackout was a result of a UPS that got damaged while workers were trying to work on the station’s roof that had been blown away by the strong winds that occurred last week Thursday.
The wind blew away part of the station’s roof and in the process the UPS room was affected.
Information gathered is that while the workers were trying to restore the station’s roof, the UPS room was affected and that resulted in the blackout.
As a result viewers could not watch some of the programmes screened on Swazi TV.

Some of these programmes included Generations and the English bulletin news.
By yesterday afternoon, the UPS control room had no roof and a construction company had been asked to try and put everything back to order.
Swazi TV Chief Executive Officer, Bongani ‘Sigcokosiyancinca’ Dlamini apologised to the viewers saying this was beyond their control.

Result

“The blackout was as a result of the winds on Thursday. They were strong and blew away part of the station’s roof. While we tried to remove the roof, they had to tamper with the roof of the control room. This resulted in the whole UPS system being affected something that resulted in the blackout,” he said.
The CEO said they were trying to see to it that the situation is normalised as soon as possible.

Trying

“It is not an easy thing, especially because the viewers are expecting a lot from us. However, I should mention that we are trying to make sure that everything is back to normal as soon as possible,” he said.
Nomcebo Malinga, Swazi TV Public Relations Officer, pleaded with the public to be patient as they were trying to solve the situation.
“We are sorry about what happened. Our engineers are already on site trying to solve the problem and we believe everything will be back to normal as soon as possible.
