SPTC EMPLOYEE’S MYSTERIOUS DEATH

MBABANE – Mystery surrounds the death of Mbabane socialite and employee of the Swaziland Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (SPTC) Funekile Gule who passed away at the premises of her rented house on Thursday evening.

Funekile’s badly injured body was discovered by some of her friends within the premises around 6pm on Thursday and there are different versions of what might have actually caused her death.
However, none of the different versions have been confirmed yet.

Funekile was renting a servant’s quarters at the home of former CTA employee and bus operator Moses Dlamini situated at Checkers, just below the Mbabane Clinic.
According to reliable information gathered by the Swazi News, Funekile was due to undertake a trip to Lesotho with some of her colleagues for Easter fun games.

While they had already gathered somewhere around town in preparation for the trip, she suddenly remembered that she had forgotten some of her items which she needed for the journey.
She told her friends she was going to the house to collect the items, driving in her Ford Figo sedan registered DSD 059 BH.

She told her friends she would be back in a few minutes. The time was around 4pm. She never returned. After minutes which turned into hours, her concerned friends started calling her but her mobile phone rang unanswered.

Increasingly becoming worried about the time since they had to leave the country, some of Funekile’s friends drove to her house to check on her and discovered a horror of horrors.
Funekile was found underneath her parked car just next to her flat at the homestead, half naked with only a bra and underwear, and – dead.
Her body was badly injured on the head, abdomen and legs. There was blood in most parts of the premises, including the garage, yard, and steps to her house.

There was no one in the homestead, save for Funekile’s body and a few dogs roaming around.
Terrified and frightened, Funekile’s friends immediately called the owner of the homestead, Moses Dlamini, who arrived promptly.
Shocked, Dlamini called the police who arrived a few minutes later and immediately launched investigations. Her friends cancelled their trip to the Lesotho games.

What remains a mystery for now is how exactly did Funekile die?
Word coming out of the Dlamini home is that she was mauled to death by the dogs because her body allegedly has traces of dog bites.
There are, however, rumours to the contrary as it is also suspected that Funekile might have been assaulted, hacked and murdered before being mauled by the dogs.

This perception is exacerbated by the fact that Funekile had lived at the Dlamini homestead for over two years and was said to be very friendly with the dogs, quashing suspicion that the dogs may have mauled her alive.
What remains though, is that nobody knows what exactly happened to here, at least for now.

The police have also refused to embrace the claim that Funekile was mauled by dogs. Confirming the death yesterday, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Assistant Superintendent Khulani Mamba said at this stage, police were not in a position to confirm that Funekile was killed by dogs or a human being.

Mamba said despite that her body has indications that she might have been mauled by dogs, for now the police refuse to confirm with authority that she was killed by the dogs. He said intensive investigations were underway.
“The body indicated that she might have been mauled by dogs but what is suspicious is that she was found half naked, with only her bra and underwear on. It is not known what or who tore her clothes off.

“For now, nobody knows what was exactly happening there. That is why we as the police are not saying she was killed by dogs but we are saying we are still investigating. “For now, we don’t know whether she was killed by dogs or she was killed by someone who then threw her to the dogs. We can’t say she was killed by dogs and we can’t say it was a human being, we are still investigating,” Mamba said. 

Mamba further confirmed that Funekile was due to leave for Lesotho with her colleagues at SPTC on Thursday.
He said when the incident occurred, nobody else was within the homestead as all family members had gone to different destinations for different purposes on the day.

It is also not clear if Funekile had arrived in the homestead in the company of some of her friends or alone.
Mamba dubbed the whole case ‘Imphica badzala’ (a mystery) but assured that police would do everything and anything within their capabilities to solve the puzzle.

“Kwanyalo kuseseyimphica ba-dzala le. Nobody knows what was exactly happening in that homestead that evening,” he said.
Mamba said the incident had shocked a lot of people, including Moses Dlamini, the homeowner, SPTC employees and management, relatives and friends.
